Clinton Harding Fowler Clint was born into a large farming family in Missouri in 1921 and was the first in the family to attend college, John Brown University. This led to a 40-year association with John Brown Schools.
He served his country in WWII as a flight instructor in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He came to California in 1951 to become Vice President and General Manager of Radio Station KGER. He worked very close with both John Brown, Sr. and John Brown, Jr. As Vice President of the John Brown Schools Foundation, Clint’s responsibilities included the Southern California Military Academy and Brown Military Academy. He served on the John Brown University Board for many years. Clint was a faithful worker for the National and State Broadcasters Associations. His greatest interest on the national level was the National Religious Broadcasters. He was influential in guiding this Christian endeavor into long-lasting stability. The John Brown Towers in Long Beach were Clint’s brainchild. This was a ministry to senior citizens. Today it continues serving seniors as the Bixby Knolls Towers. Clint met Jean Anne Barkley at JBU. After years Jean passed away. Clint was brought together with Kathryn McFarland in 1985. This proved to be a beautiful blending of two large and loving families. Clint and Kay moved to the Rogue River Valley in Oregon where they enjoyed their final years together. Debbie Fowler Hess reported to us in a letter that a Tribute to Clint Fowler was given at the Memorial Service by Bill George, a long-time Brown Schools employee. Also in attendance were Dr. John E. Brown, Jr., George and Marie Hurte (former SCMA Staff), and Leonard and Nora Stanton (he is a former Principal of SCMA and Nora was Clint’s Secretary for many years at KGER). |
