Bertie Charles Dapron Jr., 71, of Amarillo, died Saturday, March 6, 1999. Services are will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in Rich Funeral Home of Springfield, Colo. Burial will be in Walsh Cemetery in Walsh, Colo. Mr. Dapron was born and raised in Walsh, Colo. He attended Walsh schools and Brown Military Academy. A veteran of the Army, he served in Japan. In Walsh, he operated the family cafe business and was a member of the Methodist Church. Mr. Dapron served as undersheriff and sheriff of Baca County, Colo. He was instrumental in building the new jail complex and helped form the sheriff's posse. Later, he was a Star Route mail carrier. He first married Maxine Eslick. Later, he married Alene Means who preceded him in death as did two stepdaughters, Sherry Strouse and Candi Johnson. He moved to Amarillo where he married Juanita Tortella. Survivors include his wife; two children, Max Dapron of Colorado Springs and Brenda Homsher of Colorado; four stepchildren, Tim, Debbie and Shawn Tortella and Ty; and three grandsons.
